HOMESTEADICATION

Homesteadication

What is HOMESTEADICATION?

HOMESTEADICATION is a grassroots model of care, a movement that combines the wisdom of homesteading—like growing and cooking your own food, managing your environment, building community resilience—with the best of preventive health, used as medication.

HOMESTEADICATION is then a made up word from homesteading and medication Founded by a Canadian Family Physician with a unique background in Agriculture, veterinarian medicine, and public health; this movement is born from the crisis in our modern healthcare — long waits, over-medicalization, and growing disconnection.

HOMESTEADICATION is then Dr. Jean-Pierre Kabongo’s response to this crisis. At its core, it’s about making the home the first clinic, empowering families.

This new model of care approach is grounded in both medical science and everyday wisdom, empowering individuals and families to take control of their own health before illness sets in, and before contact with Primary healthcare provider..., constituting what we term pre-primary health care, which is the foundation of our movement.

It's not a replacement for the formal primary healthcare system, but a strengthening of the foundation beneath it...

HOMESTEADICATION has three pillars:

1. Make Your Home Your First Clinic

Your home is not just where you rest — it’s where healing begins.

Simple routines like clean air, rest, sunlight, connections,... are powerful health inputs we often overlook.

2. Make Your Kitchen Your First Pharmacy

The food you eat can heal or harm. In this movement you will be empowered on how to eat for energy, immune strength, mental clarity, and long-term vitality — using whole, affordable, culturally relevant ingredients.

3. Make Your Food Your First Medication

Nutrition is more than fuel — it's a daily prescription for well-being.

Learn how to use food to address fatigue, inflammation, blood sugar issues , weight, hormonal balance, and more.

Why HOMESTEADICATION Movement?

Today in Canada, our much respected and admired Canadian health system is being strained/ in crisis:

• Millions lack a family doctor, the provider at the centre of our health system

• Emergency rooms are overwhelmed by long wait time.

• People wait months to years to see a specialist

• Hospitals are overcrowded, with a consequent resurgence of “hallway medicine”

• Chronic disease is rising with over medicalization

• Health expenditure are soaring

• Patient’s satisfaction is at the rock-bottom

The system is reactive, not proactive.

HOMESTEADICATION flips the script by helping people build health literacy, lifestyle

habits, and self-care strategies — starting at home.

Who can practice HOMESTEADICATION?

This model of care is for Everyone!

You don’t need to live on a farm or know how to grow tomatoes.

You only need one thing: the willingness to take one small step toward your health, before it’s taken from you.

Whether you’re:

A working parent with no time

A student trying to stay focused

An immigrant learning to navigate Canadian healthcare system

A senior managing multiple medications

HOMESTEADICATION meets you where you are — and brings your power back home.

"Make America Healthy Again": U.S. Food Reform, Chemical Bans, and What Canada Can Learn

By Dr. Jean-Pierre Kabongo, MD | June 2025

A bold public health revolution is quietly reshaping America’s food system—one banned chemical at a time. Under the leadership of U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the “Make America Healthy Again” campaign is targeting the deep roots of chronic disease: the ultra-processed, artificially colored, and chemically sweetened foods saturating the American diet.

Understanding Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) in Children

By Dr. Jean-Pierre Kabongo, MD | June 2025

What Is Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)?

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) in children is a condition where a child's breathing repeatedly stops or becomes very shallow during sleep. This happens because the muscles and tissues in the throat relax too much and block airflow. These interruptions disturb the child's sleep and reduce oxygen levels in the body.

Homesteadication: new paradigm shift from sick care to healthcare

By Dr. Jean-Pierre Kabongo, MD | May 2025

As a Family Physician practicing in Canada for over 14 years, I’ve witnessed a profound shift in how we approach health.

More and more, I see patients—and even entire healthcare systems—relying heavily on medications while overlooking the basic, vital elements of wellness: nutrition, movement, sleep, community, and life purpose.
